Developers have turned their eyes to Hamilton as the city marks its fastest ever climb to $1 billion worth of building permits, says the city’s chief building officer.
The city announced that as of June 17, it had already passed the $1 billion mark for construction this year — nearly two weeks earlier than the previous record set in 2021, according to a press release.
Described as a “milestone” for the city, that dollar figure represents 3,761 building projects across the residential, commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.
They could include anything from a residential tower or an addition onto a factory, to a gazebo and deck in the backyard of a home.
Chief building officer Alan Shaw told The Spectator that the record represents a “confidence” that the development community has in the city, especially as the province continues to weather the pandemic.
