A Hamilton real-estate agent says he is facing an assault charge in connection to a parking lot skirmish involving a client’s tenant in August.
Agent Ron Tomblin told The Spectator he plans to fight the charge in court, noting he could lose his ability to practice his profession if he is convicted of assault.
“I was just doing my job,” Tomblin, 78, said Friday. “This is just nuts.”
The Spectator previously reported on a landlord-tenant dispute in which Tomblin alleged he was assaulted and robbed. The saga began shortly after a landlord rented out one of the units inside her Wentworth Street North home to a new tenant on Aug. 1.
The rental property had long been on the market, and the tenant knew the house was for sale and showings would need to happen, landlord Shauna Switzer previously told The Spectator.
Switzer said she’d asked Tomblin to co-ordinate with the tenant to have the apartment ready to show to prospective buyers.
When he went into the unit, Tomblin said it was full of garbage, with dog feces and urine all over the floors. Switzer said neighbouring tenants had also complained about the smell of dog feces and urine and near-constant barking from canines.
