A group of landowners is pushing back against criticism of fast-tracked housing planned in the former Ancaster Greenbelt — and calling for an “investigation” into how their properties first ended up in the protected countryside.
Councillor and past Liberal housing minister Ted McMeekin, however, dismissed the group’s public arguments this week as “utter nonsense” and “misinformation.”
The Book Road Landowners Group bought a full-page newspaper advertisement in The Spectator on Sept. 12 in support of the controversial Tory government decision to pull 1,800 acres of Ancaster farmland out of the Greenbelt. They argued the move “corrected a long-standing wrong” and would help ease Hamilton’s housing crisis.
